Section 301

A provision of the Trade Act of 1974 authorizing tariffs in response to unfair foreign trade practices. The existing China tariffs of 7.5–25% were imposed under Section 301 and are unaffected by the IEEPA ruling. New Section 301 investigations launched in March 2026 target excess capacity and forced labor across dozens of economies.
