Section 232

A provision of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 authorizing tariffs based on national security. Used for steel and aluminum tariffs, and expanded in September 2025 to impose 25% tariffs on upholstered wooden furniture and kitchen cabinets. Section 232 tariffs survive the IEEPA ruling and remain in force, with increases to 30%/50% delayed to January 1, 2027.
